Christmas Eve

As I searched my shelves for a story to share, I came across a marvelous sermon delivered on Christmas Eve forty-seven years ago, by the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., entitled “Peace on Earth.” You may not agree with everything King believed or taught, and I’m sure I could find a few points to debate, too. But we all should respect the powerful Christ-like example he set during times that would try the best of us: house bombed, family threatened, punched in the face, even stabbed in the chest.

This is an apocalyptic sermon, not in the sense of dwelling on frightening images from John’s revelation, but in the sense of a call to live today as defined by what God will do tomorrow, a call to live in authentic Christian hope.

Following is a link to a fine audio recording of the sermon.
